"Where the water ends, so does the world."
-Uzbek proverb
biz is a longstanding participant in the Bremen Water Forum and has established itself as a model for the sustainable distribution of water resouces worldwide.
One of the greatest challenges we are faced with today is ensuring the nourishment of the world's people with an adequate amount of clean drinking water. 1.5 million people worldwide have no access to clean drinking water, and over 2.5 million people live without connection to a regulated water source.
While in we in Bremen use an average 118 liters of water each day, people in countries of the South often have only 3 liters per day at their disposal.
Water scarcity in many areas regularly results in conflict over the distribution of this essential resouce. Tensions between religions and nations, especially those neighboring rivers, can easily escalate into war when disputes over water sources arise.
Management of water distribution will be increasingly transfered from public organizations to private companies, even in the metropolises of the South. This trend makes proportinal water distribution unlikely in those areas where water is viewed as a commodity and subjected to short-term financial interests.
